Welcome to www.americanstandardbred.com. Buy or sell your horses on this website. The name Standardbred is derived from the practice of racing horses on a standard distance track. The Standardbred can be pacers and trotters. They originated from thoroughbreds crossed with workhorses. Standardbreds are most commonly used for harness racing. The pacers travel laterally, with the front and back legs on one side moving laterally. The trotters travel diagonally. The opposite front and back legs move together. Standardbred horses stand about 15 hands high and weigh about 1000 pounds. Almost all Standardbreds are descended from a stallion called Hambletonian. Some standardbreds can compete as both pacers and trotters. You may also find other breeds of horses and horse real estate for sale listed on this website.
